CONTACT Altoona is celebrating its 35th Anniversary!

Through the support and dedication of volunteers, CONTACT Altoona has been a source of comfort and help to our community since 1982.  In recognition of the 35th Anniversary, CONTACT Altoona is planning many activities incorporating the theme of 35 throughout the year.  Here are the highlights for the upcoming activities in the next few months.

First, CONTACT Altoona will be releasing a Press Release announcing the new website ( ) and 35th Anniversary.  Please be watching for this in the media and on our Facebook page ( ), and take a moment to “like and share” this with your Facebook friends.

With special thanks to Trudy Miller, Board Member and faithful volunteer since 1982 (in fact Trudy was in the very 1st Training Class in 1982), I have approached “Joy in the City” television program and they will be featuring CONTACT Altoona in an upcoming television show.  I will be sure to share information as it becomes available.

Also, we have implemented the “Take the 35 for 35 Challenge”, with a goal of recruiting 35 new volunteers for our Spring 2017 classes.  Please see the enclosed insert and share with your family and friends.  The insert, contains information about our Open House, Training Classes, and the CONTACT Altoona website address, to complete the Volunteer Application and learn more about CONTACT Altoona.  This insert is also being included in local church bulletins, including First United Methodist, Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Wehnwood United Methodist, and Bethany Lutheran.  We would like to have as many churches as possible, so please let me know if your church would be willing to include this insert, and we will provide all the copies.

As you may recall from last year, Kate Kilcoyne (daughter of dedicated volunteer Jim Kilycone and his wife Stephanie), will be again running in the Pittsburgh Half-Marathon on May 7th in support of CONTACT Altoona’s.  “Kate’s Run for a Reason” will be our showcase fundraiser in support of the 35th Anniversary, with a goal of raising more than $3500 and creating awareness of CONTACT Altoona.  A special committee devoted to this cause, is being formed, and I’m hoping that you’ll consider participating on the committee and supporting “Kate’s Run for a Reason”.  More details will be forthcoming, in the interim, please visit, to make a donation, learn more, and share this exciting opportunity with others.

CONTACT Altoona is celebrating its 35th Anniversary of services through our amazing and dedicated Volunteers and Board Members!!!  Thank you ALL for your commitment and dedication to the mission of CONTACT Altoona.

Sending you, my 35 million (and more) wishes of appreciation and gratitude!
